Vietnam arrests six child smugglers

A police official says authorities in northern Vietnam arrested six people linked with a child trafficking ring, during a planned ‘sale’.

Deputy police chief in the border town of Mong Cai, Nguyen Thai Binh, told Associated Press Wednesday that two women were also among the six taken into police custody earlier this week.

The arrests were made on Monday after the smugglers were caught transporting two 10-day old boys for sale in China, Binh said.

Binh added that the six suspects were handed over to Quang Ninh provincial police for further investigation into the ring’s trafficking of children, a most deplorable crime under international law and national legislation of many countries

A social welfare center is taking care of the two babies.
